Weekly Music Meeting

Inside this week’s Music Meeting at Sands Media

Here’s a few songs we’re listening to this week that we’re confident recommending to Hot AC radio (including MP3 download links, videos, and the latest song performance data):  Christina Perri, Young The Giant, Jason Mraz, & Nickelback.  Share your opinions & airplay results with us in the Comments section.

Christina Perri
– “A Thousand Years” (from the Twilight: Breaking Dawn soundtrack)

Christina Perri “A Thousand Years” moves up to #16 this week at Mediabase Hot AC with an additional 50,000 single sales in the past week (about 700,000 total)!  In research, the song had it’s best week yet in Rate The Music — #4 Women 25-34 behind two Adele songs and Gavin DeGraw.  Top 10 Rate the Music with Persons 12+ for the second consecutive week.  This is a solid record breaking out of middays to fulltime B & Power rotations around the country.

Young The Giant – “Cough Syrup

I love this band.  “My Body” was one of my favorite songs of 2011, and this song is a great follow-up for the band to crossover to Hot AC & Top 40.  It’s been a Top 10 song at Alternative radio for weeks.  I was actually playing this as a “B” on Click 101.5 in Dayton for two or three months and it sounds great every spin.  If you’re looking for a rock/pop balance record, this could be the one!

Jason Mraz
– “I Won’t Give Up

Hot AC has been waiting, somewhat impatiently, for new music from Jason Mraz … and this one does not disappoint.  JR at WZPL/Indianapolis tells me it’s going right into sub-powers for 50 spins/week!  After just 35 spins, Q102/Cincinnati sees unprecedented potential research.  Sure, it’s a ballad, but it’s got a hook and a sound Hot AC listeners crave.  There are rarely “no-brainers” these days, but this is one.  It will react.

Nickelback – “Lullaby

Okay, I just said “no brainers” are few and far between … but, Nickelback is another one of those records.  Yes, it’s a ballad.  Yes, it sounds like Nickelback.  Yes, it’s a hit.  There’s a reason these guys are one of the biggest contemporary rock bands in the world … they produce hits.
